One Montreal hotspot that is sure to attract the most number of visitors in the upcoming year has got to be Jacques Villeneuve's gastronomic complex, Newtown.
Inaugurated last Saturday by Villeneuve and a group of old friends, the project was so unique that it does not fit into any one category. Boasting a variety of different décors and ambiences, the complex hopes to attract a select clientele. The implementation of the project was left in the hands of Jean-Pierre Da Costa, who has worked with the likes of renowned European chefs Paul Bocuse, Jacques Chibois and Louis Othier. According to him, Newtown has "one spirit, but four different ambiences". And effectively, each floor of the four-story complex that covers an enormous 19,000 square feet was designed with its own particular vocation in mind.
What to Expect
On the ground floor, at the Lounge, there is a bar surrounded by comfortable couches and chairs where visitors are invited to sample various sushi and Thai cuisine. On the first floor, gourmet Mediterranean cuisine is served in a dining hall that can accommodate up to 150 people. The second floor boasts an open-air terrace and a small pavilion open all year round where guests can come and enjoy 'happy hour' from 5pm to 7pm. Finally, at the basement level there is a dance club featuring avant-house music with in-house DJ's as of 10pm. In short, Newtown offers a wide range of different activities and ambiences that are sure to attract a diverse clientele of Montrealers. Moreover, the French, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese origins of Da Costa Li will be reflected in Newtown's menu, where the sunny Mediterranean meets international cuisine in homage to Montreal's cosmopolitan culture.
An Invitation
Newtown's celebrity owner, along with his various entrepreneurial partners, invite Montreal to experience a delectable gastronomy infused with fine wine and relaxation in a pure ambiance that is at once modern and warm, as well as to a nigh club that will be setting the trends for contemporary house music. Whichever section they choose, visitors are sure to find the very best that this city has to offer in the company of a very select clientele. Located on the corner of Crescent and de Maisonneuve in the heart of downtown Montreal, the historic exterior of the complex was maintained by fusing modern improvements with the building's avant-design.
